rTMS: Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Treatment

Treatment for Depression

Many patients do benefit from private medical insurance, either personal cover or through corporate arrangements.

The arrangements for private health insurance coverage vary by insurer – in some cases it will be covered, but not for all.

At the present time (October 2016), the situation for private healthcare insurance coverage of rTMS treatment for depression is as follows:

  • Dr Neal is recognised by Aviva for the provision of rTMS for depression
  • Other insurers say they will consider on a case by case basis – Bupa Global, Cigna
  • Bupa do not cover it yet

It is always best to review your policy documentation first, then enquire or check with your provider for latest information.

As this is a relatively new treatment in the UK, private healthcare insurers will continue to review their policies and therefore the situation is open to change. We are working to improve this situation following the recommendation of the treatment by NICE in December 2015.
