TMS Shown Effective in Treating Pain

TRANSCRANIAL MAGNETIC STIMULATION NEWS

by Dr Leigh A Neal, Medical Director Smart TMS Clinics

Researchers in Paris reporting in the journal Brain Stimulation have found that TMS using the faster theta burst format is effective in the treatment of acute pain.

In 14 normal volunteers given painful stimuli, the analgesic effects of standard TMS and theta burst TMS were significantly superior to those of placebo TMS.

However, theta burst was significantly more effective than standard TMS.  They concluded that theta burst TMS has considerable clinical potential, and studies in patients are required to confirm the potential of this new stimulation method for clinical applications.
