There’s no denying that a good night’s sleep can do us the world of good, but when you suffer from insomnia, it isn’t only your mental health that’s impacted, but your physical health too.

TMS can help you sleep better and for longer.

Understanding primary chronic insomnia

Everybody struggles to sleep from time to time but insomnia is diagnosed when the sleep problems become a regular event. Insomnia can, in many cases, be caused by another condition, like anxiety. If you feel particularly anxious at bedtime, you may lay awake thinking, but primary chronic insomnia can’t be attributed to another disorder and is a serious condition in itself.

Symptoms of primary chronic insomnia include:

  • Struggling to fall asleep, even if you’re tired
  • Waking up several times a night
  • Waking up unusually early and being unable to go back to sleep
  • Finding it difficult to concentrate during the day because you’re tired
  • Being unable to nap despite being tired

Although primary chronic insomnia can leave you feeling helpless, Smart TMS can improve your sleep and help you to get into a healthy sleep routine again.

How does TMS work as a treatment for primary chronic insomnia?

TMS calms the activity in the area of the brain that causes insomnia to improve sleep quality. It only treats the brain circuits involved in your condition, rather than flooding the brain with chemicals.

The treatment prescribed for primary chronic insomnia will consist of 30 sessions, split into two courses of 15 sessions. These sessions are booked over three to six weeks, with each session lasting 30 minutes each. Some patients are able to have more than one session in a day.

TMS treatment evidence

Research into treating primary chronic insomnia with TMS shows that TMS is best at improving the REM (rapid eye movement) sleep phase, providing high quality sleep leaving you feeling better rested.
