Video Review: TMS for Smoking (Nicotine Addiction)

Barbara had been a smoker for over 25 years, trying everything to stop; but she struggled with feeling anxious and nervous whenever she tried to stop, so nothing worked for long.

She successfully kicked the habit after repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation at Smart TMS, London and shares her story in this new video testimonial.

TMS Addiction Treatment to Stop Smoking

Barbara explains:

“I’ve been smoking for 25 years on and off. I’ve tried cold turkey, I’ve tried hypnotherapy… nothing seemed to work.

“I picked up a brochure on Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and noticed that it treated a lot of disorders including addiction – cocaine addiction and alcoholism – and I decided to give it a go and try it for nicotine addiction.

“One of my problems has always been when I stop smoking is I get very nervous, I get irritable, I get very cranky.

“I wanted to try something that will give me a jump-start in not feeling those anxious feelings.

“After my very first treatment with TMS I walked out of the clinic feeling happier and feeling as if the urge just left me.

“I know it sounds crazy after my first or one treatment, but it did happen after my first treatment.

“I had 10 treatments and every day it got better and better.”

Smoking

Smoking is a major preventable health risk and the number one cause of preventable cancer in the UK. It accounts for around 100,000 deaths in the UK every year in addition to a range of serious health complaints.

Although smoking may be considered a ‘choice’, it quickly becomes an addiction and is a very difficult habit to break.

Smoking is just physically addictive, there are also psychological factors, involving habitual and often also social habits.

Giving up can cause anxiety as well as physical cravings.

rTMS for Nicotine Addiction

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy offers a different approach for helping patients to stop smoking. TMS treatment works directly on the area of the brain associated with addiction in order to remove the cravings and help patients to stop quickly and effectively.

While the treatment will focus primarily on nicotine addiction, rTMS treatment may also improve symptoms of depression and anxiety.
