OK! Online followed the story of Christopher Maloney’s TMS treatment, with an article which reveals just how serious his conditions had become, with depression, anxiety and body dysmorphia leading him to consider taking his own life.
The article was entitled:
“X Factor’s Christopher Maloney undergoes ‘last resort’ treatment for depression after revealing plastic surgery addiction left him SUICIDAL”
Depression and Anxiety
Christopher Maloney’s mental health problems began as a child when he was bullied. The experience left him struggling with depression and anxiety for over 20 decades. He told OK! Online:
“I used to get bullied at school, day in day out – and it was severe bullying, it wasn’t just name calling. I was getting weed on. Getting spat on… that sort of thing.
Having reached the finals of the X Factor Christopher Maloney, was exposed to a high-pressure career including roles in musical theatre and a stint on Celebrity Big Brother. However, he says that the pressure of appearing on the X Factor had devastating consequences for his mental health.
“I managed to deal with it throughout my life but when I went on X Factor I had a breakdown. That’s when I started to feel like when I was younger, and it spiralled from there.”
Body Dysmorphia
Christopher has had a series of cosmetic procedures in an effort to feel good about his appearance but struggled to look at himself in the mirror on an appearance on Loose Women. He explains
“…I hated leaving the house because I was so unhappy with my reflection.”
He told OK! that his body dysmorphia and addiction to plastic surgery made him feel to consider ending his life. He says:
“I even got my car windows tinted because I had that much anxiety I felt like people were looking in.
“I was always looking at myself and wanting to change myself. It frightened me to look in the mirror. I always looked at myself and thought, ‘what surgery do I need now?‘”
The appearance on Loose Women forced him to see that he needed help. So when he was offered treatment with transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy at Smart TMS, he went ahead with the innovative treatment as a ‘last resort’ to try and conquer his demons.
TMS therapy is a non-invasive, medication-free treatment which uses high-tech magnets to stimulate the areas of the brain affected by depression or anxiety. Christopher says the treatment has worked for him removing his symptoms and giving him a much better quality of life. He explains:
“My depression has completely disappeared. Completely. Don’t get me wrong, there are constantly butterflies in my stomach, but the actual anxiety hasn’t come back. Once I’ve had the whole 30 treatments I’m confident it will completely eradicate all my symptoms. “
He concludes:
“It’s fantastic, honest to god. This is my last resort. I was at a loose end with what to do, but now I feel like a brand new person”.
