FREE Safety Screening

Your safety screening is completely free of charge. If your patient advisor flags any issues that may mean you’re unsuitable to receive TMS treatment, they will discuss with your clinician beforehand to make sure you’re not paying for an initial consultation unnecessarily.

Before you have a consultation with one of our clinicians, we’ll ask you to complete some online questionnaires. These will allow your care team to have a good insight into your medical history and how you’re feeling now. Your patient advisor will use these forms to ensure you’re safe to receive treatment – they’ll check that you don’t have any ferromagnetic metal implants in your head, for example.

Depression & anxiety treatment prices

At Smart TMS, we recognise that a large percentage of our patients suffer from depression and anxiety alongside one another. For this reason, we treat these two conditions together within the same session.

TMS treatment for depression and anxiety is split into two courses. After 15 sessions, the results of the treatment are very apparent for most patients.

TMS Treatment Costs/Prices FAQs

What affects the cost of TMS treatment?

The cost of treatment will depend on the condition being treated, as this determines how many sessions are required.

Are rTMS and dTMS the same treatment?

Although similar, rTMS is more commonly used. Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, which is the NICE approved treatment offered by Smart TMS, uses a magnet referred to by professionals as a ‘figure of eight coil’. This coil emits repetitive magnetic pulses to the specific area of the brain known to cause the condition being treated. In comparison, deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, or dTMS, uses a ‘H-coil’, which looks like a helmet. The magnetic pulses are emitted on a much larger area of the brain as it’s much less focused than rTMS.

Is TMS treatment available on the NHS?
There are very few NHS clinics offering TMS treatment and those who do offer it tend to have strict catchment areas, long waiting lists and specific condition criteria. If you would like TMS on the NHS, we recommend you speak to your GP in the first instance.

See NHS Funding for more information.

Is TMS covered by private medical insurance (PMI)?

Most insurers will consider claims for TMS on a case by case basis. Details of which companies cover TMS are shown here Private Health Insurance.

Do Smart TMS offer finance?
When paying for depression treatment, we’re able to offer finance. through our partners This will see the cost of the second course of 15 sessions spread over 12 months. For more information visit our finance page.

What happens next?

Before you can start treatment, there are two stages that need to be completed:

  1. Completion of your pre-assessment questionnaire. This gives us the information we need on your medical history and symptoms before your assessment with one of our clinicians;
  2. Our clinician will talk through your medical history and symptoms before arriving at a diagnosis and confirming your suitability for TMS treatment.
  3. A prescription for TMS will be written.

To arrange to start this process, please contact us on 0345 222 5678 or submit an enquiry and one of our patient advisors will contact you.
