A recent study has found that repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) has the potential to improve memory in elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment.
This is a clinical syndrome associated with an increased risk of dementia.
Seventeen elderly patients were given 10 sessions of rTMS over the frontal lobe and showed a significant improvement in memory, which was maintained after a month.
These findings suggest that rTMS might be effective as a therapy for mild cognitive impairment and probably a tool to delay deterioration.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a technological breakthrough in the treatment of depression.
